It is amazing that the legal system has not been more proactive in educating the public on the lack of reliability that eyewitness testimony holds. There have been far too many people who have spent many years behind bars due to convictions solely based on eyewitness testimony only to later be exonerated, but only after wasting their lives in a hell that they never belonged in to begin with. The Innocence Project has been wonderful about helping such people regain their freedom but the wonderful people who participate there can only do so much, and thus it is gravely important that we, the everyday people, educate ourselves so that less of our neighbors suffer the great injustices that so many have suffered already due to the lack of education on this topic.
